Pravilna prehrana uz umjerenu tjelesnu aktivnost pridonosi održavanju tjelesnog i duševnog zdravlja, općoj otpornosti organizma, a kod djece i mladih pridonosi pravilnom rastu i razvoju organizma.
Abstract (english) Even the ancient Egyptians 1500 years before Christ knew that food can affect diseases and the next, and from the works of Hippocrates we learn that doctors from his time knew the impact of food on our health. According to the teachings of Hippocrates, which coincides with the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians, digestion plays an important role in maintaining health and food is more important to the sick person than the medicine itself. His statement "Let your food be your medicine, and let your medicine be your food" is well known, which tells us exactly that. Today’s world nutrition and health experts also agree with Hippocrates ’claim that emphasizes that food is the most significant medicine of the 21st century. Nutrition in addition to physical activity plays an important role in maintaining good health of which there is much evidence. Proper nutrition with moderate physical activity contributes to the maintenance of physical and mental health, general resistance of the organism, and in children and young people it contributes to the proper growth and development of the organism. Today, it has one of the leading roles in the quality of human life, in the prevention, treatment and cure of many diseases. Ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals found in food have a protective effect in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and osteoporosis. Collaborative medicine and nutrition are increasingly revealing the great impact of proper lifestyle and nutrition on the overall health of the population, and scientists have confirmed that the right diet and healthy and orderly life can be a prerequisite in combating today's deadly chronic diseases. Despite the fact that eating disorders involve the earliest good group, the role of the nurse in preventive measures should begin as early as kindergarten. The nurse should participate in compiling menus for kindergartens, schools, hospitals and other institutions where children, adolescents and adults spending time.
