Abstract Depresija je javnozdravstvena bolest. Izraženost i broj simptoma ovisi o težini depresivnog poremećaja.
Abstract (english) Depression is public health illness. It has been the leading cause of disablement in the entire world and is contributing to global load of illnesses. According to Croatian National Institute of Public Health, in 2019 in Croatia, 11,5% of the total number of patients diagnosed with mental disorders has been hospitalized because of depressive disorder. Depressive disorders are often hard to recognize and because of that large number of persons stay untreated. Depressive disorder diagnosis is being established by ICD – 10 or DSM – 5 criteria. Clinical forms of depressive disorder are distinguished by groups of symptoms which dominate the clinical feature. The majority of persons diagnosed with depressive disorder have typical clinical feature which includes mood, thinking, psychomotorics, instinct, will, attention and memorisation disorders. The expression and the number of symptoms depends on the severity of depressive disorder. Depression is being treated with biological methods and psychotherapeutical methods. The goal of the treatment is to reduce or remove the symptoms, establish work and general social functioning and to reduce the possibility of illness relaps. Nurse has a major role in the care for patient diagnosed with psychological disorder. If one accomplishes the objectives set in the implementation of the health care process, she/he has a relaxed patient which is ready for resocialization. Quality cooperation with the entire medical team, which takes care of the patient, shortenes itʼs hospital stay what also allows earlier resocialization.
The goal of this thesis is to find out the knowledge of general population about depression and to get insight on the opinions and presence of prejudices in the general population towards persons diagnosed with depression. 304 participants took part in the research.
