Abstract
Alkoholizam je dugotrajna i često kronična bolest. Iz praktičnih razloga najprimjerenijom se pokazala modificirana definicija Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije (SZO) koja glasi: „Alkoholičar je osoba, koja je dugotrajnim pijenjem postala ovisna o alkoholu (psihički, fizički ili na oba načina) i u nje se uslijed toga, razvijaju zdravstvena (psihička ili fizička) oštećenja i socijalne poteškoće pristupačne klasičnim medicinskim i socijalnim dijagnostičkim postupcima“. Spomenuti simptomi moraju biti utvrđeni, odnosno, ne smiju se samo pretpostavljati i na temelju anamnestičkih podataka o prekomjernom pijenju zaključivati da bolesnik boluje od alkoholizma. Najčešća komplikacija alkoholizma koja nastaje kada dolazi do apstiniranja od alkohola je delirium tremens. Delirium tremens je smeteno stanje sa drhtavicom tijela i udova, sa živim halucinacijama koje mogu zahvatiti sva čula, te prolaznim nesistematiziranim sumanostima, općim nemirom i nesanicom. Delirantni alkoholičar je u stanju sužene, dezorijentirane svijesti s povremenim trenucima lucidnosti, a potom ponovnim tonjenjem u bunilo. Medicinska sestra/tehničar, kao član multidisciplinarnog tima, ima ulogu prepoznavanja, otkrivanja i tretiranja problema pacijenata iz područja zdravstvene njege. Zbog toga svakom pacijentu pristupa jedinstveno, holistički, terapijski. Posebnu pažnju obratiti na to kako pacijent prihvaća sebe, svoje stanje i sadašnje cjelokupno funkcioniranje.

Alcoholism is a long and often chronic disease. For practical reasons, the most appropriate is shown a modified definition of the World Health Organization (WHO), which reads: "Drinker is a person who is with long-term drinking became addicted to alcohol (mentally, physically or both) and as a result, develop health (mental or physical) damage and social difficulties affordable traditional medical and social diagnostic procedures. " The above symptoms should be identified, and not only be assumed on the basis of medical history of excessive drinking conclude that the patient was suffering from alcoholism. The most common complications of alcoholism, which occurs when there is abstinence from alcohol is delirium tremens. Delirium tremens is a self-conscious state with tremors of the body and limbs, with vivid hallucinations that can involve all the senses, and transient temporary basis possessed, general restlessness and insomnia. Delirious alcoholic has disoriented consciousness with occasional moments of lucidity, and then again sinking into delirium. Nurse / technician, as a member of the multidisciplinary team, has the role of recognition, detection and treatment of problems of patients in health care. Because of this unique approach to each patient, holistic, therapeutic. Pay particular attention on a way how patient accepts himself, his state and the current overall functioning.
