The main characteristics of bronchitis are an inflammation of the bronchi that most often causes a cough that can be productive, which means that patients cough up sputum that can look different. The appearance of sputum can be bloody, purulent or cloudy depending on the stage of the disease. Other symptoms that occur with the disease are chest pain, wheezing in the lungs and elevated body temperature. Acute bronchitis is a disease in which the cough lasts up to 15 days. The acute phase can pass independently or with expectorant drugs. Chronic cough lasts more than 3 months. In the chronic phase, it is very important to know the cause of the disease so that additional complications do not develop in the respiratory system. If the cough does not stop, it is necessary to seek professional help. When creating this research, an online survey was conducted using a Google survey form. The aim of the work is to find out the incidence of bronchitis in the area of Međimurje County, the symptoms and how much the population knows about the disease itself. The research was conducted from September 2, 2022. until 6/9/2022. 77 participants were surveyed with a questionnaire. Further analysis of the responses yielded results indicating that the population knows how to recognize the symptoms and causes of acute and chronic bronchitis and that the majority of the population have never had chronic bronchitis. Further analysis also revealed that although most respondents know when they are in a room with toxic and harmful substances, they do not use respiratory system protection.
