Abstract
Trudnički tečaj pomaže i upućuje buduću majku o trudnoći, porodu i njezi djeteta.

Pregnancy and delivery are thought to be among the most important periods for women during their reproductive age. Preparing for childbirth as well as antenatal care are important for successful delivery. Antenatal care deals with the care of women during pregnancy, four stages of childbirth and recuperative period following the delivery. It includes physical assessment of women before, during and after the childbirth, obstetric history, pregnancy examination and labour support. Fetal assessment during labour includes continuous cardiotocography (CTG), fetal ph testing, examination of amniotic fluid, thus aminoscopy and postpartum care, thus assessing the Apgar Score (color, respiration, heart rate, reflexes, muscle tone), first examination of a newborn and early initiation of breastfeeding. As mentioned above, antenatal care includes numerous procedures connected to childbirth and immediate postpartum period. The main goal of antenatal care is the delivery of a healthy new born and healthy new mother. Regular prenatal care leads to good antenatal care and that is the reason why it is very important to prepare a woman for childbirth. Prenatal care should start very early during the pregnancy with the first physical exam at the gynecologist and continue with the regular checkups. Childbirth education classes are recommended for future parents at least once during pregnancy. Childbirth education provides mother with necessary knowledge about pregnancy, birth and care of the newborn. Psychological preparation for delivery nowadays includes overcoming fear of the unknown. By reducing birth anxiety, delivery discomfort and good prenatal care, a mother is prepared for childbirth and postpartum period.
