Less
Abstract (english) Pregnancy or gravidy is a physiological condition in the reproductive period of women. Birth of a live and healthy newborn is considered as a logical, normal outcome. Although pregnancy is considered as a physiological condition, there's a chance for eventual complications. In order to avoid and prevent any complications, it is necessary to regularly monitor the course of each pregnancy. The purpose of antenatal care is to protect the mother and the baby throughout the entire pregnancy, from
... More conception till birth. Antenatal care is performed by using several procedures among which regular medical controls enable continuos tracking of pregnancy development. Controls should be regular considering monthly checks till the 32nd week of pregnancy. From 32nd till 36th week, controls should be performed twice a month and after the 36th week, once a week or even more often if necessary. Pregnancy and its progress is influenced by variable and constant factors. Under variable factors we list stress, physical activity and diet. Constant factors purport cronic diseases of the mother such as thyroid disease, hyperthyroidism, or hypo, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and others.
Except for these factors and diseases, there´s a possibility of developing diseases or diagnoses that are exclusively related to pregnancy and disappear after childbirth. Some of them are gestational diabetes mellitus, chronic hypertension, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, cholestasis, thrombophilia and other. High-risk pregnancies are considered as pregnancies with a high risk of morbidity and death before, during and after the birth for the mother, fetus or a newborne.
The research part of the paper was done in cooperation with The General Hospital of Pula, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Delivery room. The collected data refers to the total number of births in 2015, the number of high-risk pregnancies in the given period and the division according to the classification of high-risk pregnancies, parity patient and the method of completion of pregnancy. From a total of 1281 pregnancies, there was 234 high risk pregnancies. Among the high risk pregnancies, gestational diabetes mellitus is the most often one. Less
