Abstract | Posljednjih godina sve veću pozornost u ublažavanju simptoma bolesnika sa karcinomima zauzima upotreba medicinske marihuane.
Abstract (english) | In recent years, the use of medical marijuana has become increasingly important in alleviating the symptoms of cancer patients. Medical marijuana is a preparation with cannabinoid substances, and so far, three drugs with some of the cannabinoid substances are being administered. Cannabinoids may be administered orally, sublingually, and topically, and may be smoked, inhaled, mixed with food, or taken as tea. In oncology patients, marijuana use is most known in the relief of chemotherapy symptoms. Some of the side effects of chemotherapy may be nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, bone marrow suppression, hair loss, and consequently possible development of depression.
A study was conducted to find out what the attitudes of oncology patients are toward the use of medical marijuana. Do they consume medical marijuana, to what extent do they consume medical marijuana and for what purposes do they consume it? The survey was conducted for a suitable sample of participants of cancer patients aged 18-65 years and over, and contains three groups of questions with a total of 25 questions. The data for this survey were collected through an online survey over the period 10.07.2019. to 15.08.2019. The survey was completely anonymous and was filled out by members of the Association of Women with Cancer "ALL for HER" and members of the Coalition of Associations in Health, with the prior approval of the president of the associations. 138 people participated in the survey. The data obtained indicate that three quarters (123, 89%) of the survey participants were familiar with the term medical marijuana, and that they mostly heard about it from the media (55, 36%), and only 3 (2%) about medical marijuana heard from doctors. Furthermore, 45 (33%) participants consumed medical marijuana, stating that they wanted to try anything that could help (33, 24%) as the most common reason for using it. 25 (42%) participants informed their doctor about the consumption of medical marijuana, most often medical marijuana in the form of oil (29.20%). The results of the study showed that oncology patients are aware of the existence and use of medical marijuana and have a positive attitude towards its use. |
