Abstract (english) | All that is needed for development, from conception to birth, is given to the baby by the mother via the placenta. This natural connection continues after birth through breastfeeding. Pregnancy is a good time to inform mother about the benefits of breastfeeding, to be informed about breastfeeding, to read the appropriate literature, to build a positive attitude towards breastfeeding and to prepare for it. Breast milk is the healthiest food for a baby and completely satisfies baby's nutritional and fluid needs for the first six months, and after that, nutrition should be introduced. Breastfeeding should be started immediately after birth or at first skin-to-skin contact. A nurse is a person who plans, implements, and coordinates health care, continually educates, and educates and advises people he or she supports. Pregnancy, childbirth and parenting require an individual and committed approach to each mother in order to be well informed, educated and assisted in the breastfeeding process and to help with any difficulties that arise. All maternity hospitals in Croatia have the title “Baby Friendly Hospital” since 2016, and the initiative continues with the support of mothers in order to make maternity hospitals also friends of mothers. Most of all, mothers need support that should continue after leaving the maternity hospital. Therefore, the establishment of as many breastfeeding support groups as possible is currently encouraged, of which there are more than 150 in Croatia today. During the preparation of the final paper, a research was conducted in which 587 participants participated and a poll was used as a research instrument. The research tested sociodemographic data, personal breastfeeding experience, attitudes toward breastfeeding, and self-esteem. The results showed the importance of the pregnancy course in the decision to breastfeed the baby for a minimum of 6 months to one year, and at the same time this range of breastfeeding is associated with a higher level of education and more positive attitudes about breastfeeding. |
