During the preperation of this thesis, the process of modeling and simulating a computer model of a neuron, and setting the desired parameters, using NEURON software is discussed in detail. Moreover, the neuron and the propagation of the action potential from a biological and computational point of view are also further explained. Using Hodgkin-Huxley's mathematical model of a neuron, this thesis describes how action potential propagate and analysis of the obtained results in NEURON software can be made and simulated. This thesis describes the function of a neuron, all the parts of which it consists and the way in which the said neuron can be computationally simulated using the Hodgkin-Huxley model of a neuron. Despite being published in the 1950s, the Hodgkin-Huxley model of a neuron is still the most optimal model for investigating neural function when changing certain parameters. In order to describe the user experience while working in NEURON software in detail, the main tools used in modeling as described. Good and bad experiences when using the NEURON software are listed and possible improvements are suggested in order to create a better program. Since NEURON software is a kind of alternative to using Matlab to model and simulate the operation of neurons, a comparison has been made between this type of software that uses an open-source license and a softvere with a paid license such as Matlab. Although there are certain shortcomings, the results of the simulations themselves speak in favor of the ease of use of NEURON software and its usefulness in modelling the function of neurons.
