Helicobacter pylori is a frequent microorganism which has the ability to weaken the host’s immune response in order to survive in the body. Its action is considered to be the main cause of gastric infections, the most significant of which are gastritis and peptic ulcer, and due to prolonged untreated disease there is a possibility of gastric malignoma development. The eradication is the first step in treating diseases that are closely related to infection. The therapy that tackles Helicobacter pylori infection uses a combination of two antibiotics and one medication whose role is to suppress the secretion of gastric acid. However, the increased use of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance. This comes to the third line of defense, which is a change in drugs based on antibiotic susceptibility testing of the isolated Helicobacter pylori strain. These data were my inspiration for conducting research on the knowledge of the student population about the causative agent and the mode of transmission. For the purpose of the research, an online survey questionnaire was conducted, which was distributed via social networks (Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber). In the period from September 2, 2020 to September 16, 2020 the survey was completed by 119 participants. The results of my research can serve as a warning, because according to these data, the participants are insufficiently educated. Based on the questions which I put in research, a small number of participants were acquainted with the risk factors for the development of the infection or the mode of transmission of the infection itself, and finally about the diagnostic methods, since the initial phase of the infection is asymptomatic. The results can be used for better direction of education towards a certain layer of the population, and with it can be achieved better education or counselling.
