Abstract (english) | In December 2019, in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, an epidemic of severe infection with acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) developed and spread to China and beyond. On February 12, 2020, the World Health Organization officially caused the disease with a new coronavirus called COVID-19, announcing a global pandemic of COVID-19 disease on March 11, 2020. So far, over thirty million have been confirmed infected, of which nine hundred and sixty thousand have died. The number of patients in Croatia exceeded fifteen thousand, while the number of deaths was two hundred pedestrians. COVID-19 affects different people differently. Most infected people have developed a mild or moderate illness and are recovering without hospital treatment. The most common symptoms are fever, dry cough, tiredness, pain, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, and rash. The onset of the first symptoms occurs on average 5 to 6 days after infection with the virus, but can last up to 14 days. The viral causative agent of COVID-19 is in most cases transmitted through a droplet that occurs when an infected person coughs, sneezes or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to fly through the air quickly falling to the floor and other surfaces. You can become infected by touching your eyes, nose or mouth after touching such contaminated surfaces, or by inhaling the virus if you are in the immediate vicinity of a person who has COVID-19. |
