Abstract Većina žena sanja o radosti koju nosi trudnoća, ali i prvi kontakt s vlastitim djetetom.
Abstract (english) Most women dream of the joy that comes with pregnancy, but also the first contact with their own child. This is usually the case, when the conditions are ideal. Unfortunately, some of them go through feelings of sadness, guilt and many others instead of joy. Due to the action of various factors, during the midwifery period, which lasts approximately 6 weeks, psychological difficulties occur that can vary from mild postpartum sadness to severe psychosis. Family support, timely prevention and adequate treatment largely depend on which symptoms will appear and how long they will last. A nurse is often the first person a woman meets after giving birth, and this is an ideal opportunity to create a relationship of trust. Women, especially first-time mothers, are scared, worried and insecure about their new situation. Obstetricians and pediatricians also play a big role because they can encourage women to express feelings they are otherwise ashamed of. The quality of life of women with postpartum psychological disorders is greatly impaired, which is why psychological and physical support is a very important basis for complete healing.
Postpartum disorders such as grief, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and psychosis will be discussed in subsequent paragraphs. As a very important item, the positive and negative sides of the treatment in relation to the child and breastfeeding will be considered. Also, the key interventions of healthcare professionals for patient care during and after discharge from the hospital will be listed.
