Abstract (english) The term anorexia nervosa was first described as starvation syndrome. Anorexia nervosa is a complex psychiatric illness associated with food restriction and high mortality. The disorder is characterized by permanent limitation of energy intake, leading to weight gain significantly lower than expected for the age and height of the person. Anorexia usually, but not always, begins in adolescence, often as puberty begins and body shapes change. It is more common in adolescents and young women, but it can also be developed by young men. Although this problem has existed for centuries, it is becoming more common in the last years , especially in cultures where weight loss is considered attractive. Factors that affect the onset of anorexia are; genetic, psychological, environmental and social. The stigma is strong social process characterized by labeling, stereotyping, and separating a particular group people, which ultimately leads to discrimination. Stigma applies to individuals or groups, and we can divide it into health or non-health stigma, whether real or imaginary. Stigma associated with mental illness exists not only in the public but also in health systems. The starting point for discovering many layers of stigma is to build community-wide awareness of AN, its prevention and its impact. Stigma is a significant barrier to seek help. It takes away people (who are already vulnerable) their dignity, increases their sense of isolation and further reduces their self- esteem. Healthcare providers who have stigmatizing attitudes or behaviors can be considered a key barrier to using services related to mental health, and therefore the education of medical staff and contact with individuals with anorexia nervosa. The paper discusses the AN disorder itself, the possibilities treatment, and stigma within hospital systems, that is, by nursing students. The goal of this research is to show whether there is stigma by nursing students at the University North, and what is the level of stigma towards people with AN. Research has been conducted in this paper using a specially structured survey questionnaire in which 154 students participated and the data collected were processed by descriptive statistics methods. The Social Distance Scale (SDS) was used in compiling the questionnaire, as well as claims found in Internet sources and literature. The results of the research indicate stigmatizing attitudes of nursing students towards people with AN, when it comes to a close relationship with people suffering from AN.
