Guillain-Barre syndrome is classified as an acute polyneuropathic disease of demyelinating character. The syndrome occurs as a result of an infection that causes demyelination of nerve fibers. The first symptoms of the disease are weakness, tingling, and an uncomfortable feeling in the arms and legs, which most often begins in the lower extremities and then can spread upwards. In severe cases, paralysis can occur. It is crucial to diagnose the presence of this syndrome as early as possible so that timely therapy can be given and appropriate care provided. The diagnosis of GBS is made after the anamnesis has been taken and detailed examinations have been performed. In neuropathic diseases such as Guillain-Barre syndrome, the emphasis is on starting physiotherapy rehabilitation as early as possible to prevent complications and to help the patient recover as quickly as possible and return to daily life activities. The main goals of neurological physiotherapy are recovery, adaptation, maintenance and prevention. Prior to the rehabilitation, the physiotherapist uses tests and standard norms of physiotherapy assessment. The exercises that are performed are proprioception exercises, coordination and balance exercises, and strength exercises. The program includes hydrotherapy and electrotherapy. Upon completion of physical therapy and rehabilitation, the patient and his family are educated. The physiotherapist plays an important role in neurological physiotherapy as well as in understanding this syndrome and its consequences. Many studies suggest a significant recovery after rehabilitation.
