Contagious diseases are a big public health problem. Insufficient knowledge and inadequate care in the last century have brought to sudden infection spread. Introducing penicilin into the treatment of bacterial sexually transmitted diseases has substantially helped the situation. In the space of Republic of Croatia we are seeing a fall in chlamydia infection rates in the last few years. The situation with gonorrhea is similar, every year there is a fall in infections. Syphilis had a fall trend until 2003, but in the last few years it's seeing a slight growth. There's not enough talk about sexually transmitted disease and every year there's over 300 million infections. Data about patient age is concerning, increasing numbers of adolescents and younger adults below 25 years of age. Sexually transmitted diseases don't only cause issues within the reproductive system, but in other big systems and can cause longterm complications. The aim of this research was to look into the knowledge of nurse students about bacterial sexually trasmitted diseases like chlamydia, syfilis and gonorrhea. We put together a survey which had 15 questions and was distributed on the social platform „Facebook“. The survey was active from the 4th of August until the 18th of August 2022. Students have shown good knowledge about the diseases which could be connected to the data of informing the participants. Most participants, more than 70%, informs themselves from professional and scientific literature. Using protection and apstinency from intercourse is the safest form of protection from sexually transmitted diseases. 65% of participants use protection during intercourse while 50% said they use condoms as a form of protection. Education of medical staff about prevention of sexually transmitted diseases could be a key to reducing the spread, as well as reducing complications caused by them. Nurses have a big role in education of patients so introducing preventive programs into their schools and faculties could improve the knowledge and education of the group which is at most risk, adolescents and young adults.
