Vrlo važnu ulogu u cijelom procesu djetetova odrastanja i razvoja imaju roditelji.
Abstract (english) Motor development can be described as a process in which the child acquires skills in which he uses his own body to be able to master space and master the handling of objects in order to reach the desired goal. Motor skills and its development are connected with the emotional, psychological, physical and social development of the child. Entire motor development is divided into 4 areas of development and those are: head control, trunk control, hands control and legs control. From the moment of the child's birth, primitive reflexes are present, which periodically disappear, in the later stages of life, gross and fine motor movements appear. Also, child's motor skills develop in a certain sequence, therefore there are 2 directions in which the cephalo-caudal direction and the proksimo-distal direction take place. It is essential to have a good knowledge of the stages of a child's development and primitive reflexes, in order to be able to act correctly during each stage and notice deviations and potencial symptoms of risk in time. Deviations in muscle tone that can occur in a child are: hypertonus, hypotonus and dystonic syndrome. All three mentioned conditions point to the fact that the child's brain was exposed to some kind of trauma during birth. Baby handling is a type of neurodevelopmental therapy that consist of the procedures of holding, carrying, feeding, burping, changing, lifting and lowering the child. With the daily application of baby handling, the child unconsciously exercises all day long and in this way information about correct positions and movements is sent to the brain. Parents play a very important role in the entire process of a child's growth and development. They should be familiar with all stages of development and posible risks in order to be able to react in a timely manner.
