Abstract Zdravi početak života jest dojenje.
Abstract (english) A healthy start of life is breastfeeding. First hours after birth are the time for creating an inseparable bond between mother and child for life. The pictures of a happy mother that we see in books or on the Internet while she is nursing a satisfied baby do not show the true reality, because at first it can be complicated. The benefits of breastfeeding for the child's health are multiple and long-lasting. Only breastfeeding until the sixth month of life is a priority. To become a successful breastfeeding team, it is important to approach it correctly from the very beginning. With their selfless advice, unconditional support and encouragement, nurses who enrich their knowledge of breastfeeding with education through the latest research and guidelines, symposia, seminars, workshops and meetings will always help. A mother will then discover first-hand valid and up-to-date information about breastfeeding, expressing milk or feeding with adapted formula, correct milk storage, correct position for herself and the child during breastfeeding, and ultimately the mother will develop confidence in her own ability to breastfeed. During the preparation of the thesis, a research was conducted in which 456 female respondents participated, and a questionnaire was used as a research instrument. The questionnaire examined socio-demographic data, personal experience of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, personal situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and levels of concern for yourself, the newborn, relationship with partner, family and differences in relation to age, level of education, number of children and recovery after disease. What is pleasing is the result that a large percentage of women decided to breastfeed during pregnancy and believe that breastfeeding contributes to the later health of the child, but they considers that support and difficulties in breastfeeding should be improved. It is a commendable fact that the mothers believe that they had satisfactory care in the hospital and were fully educated by the nurse. The results showed diverse situations with an unknown and not enough explored disease and a certain but also expected level of concern, mostly for the newborn.
