Abstract Uvod: Ovaj završni rad istražuje znanja i stavove trudnica o dijastazi musculusa rectusa abdominisa (DRA) prije i nakon trudnoće kako bi istaknuo važnost edukacije o ovom stanju.
Abstract (english) Introduction: This final paper investigates the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women about diastasis of the musculus rectus abdominis (DRA) before and after pregnancy in order to highlight the importance of education about this condition. DRA can lead to functional limitations, aesthetic problems and diseases.
Methods: The research was conducted through an online survey that included 138 pregnant women of different age groups and socioeconomic statuses. The survey was distributed via Google Forms on social networks and consisted of 21 questions divided into two categories: sociodemographic data and statements related to DRA on a Likert scale.
Results and discussion: Bobovik and Dąbek (2018) highlighted the association between body mass index (BMI) and physical activity level with the size of DRA. In this research, the opinions of the participants about this connection were divided, which indicates the need for additional education about the influence of body weight and activity on DRA. Fan et al. (2020) investigated the impact of delivery methods on abdominal muscles and fascia, finding that C-section causes more significant changes in muscle structure. The participants also showed divided opinions about the impact of caesarean section on DRA, which suggests the need for better information on this aspect. Research by L. Ptaskowska et al. (2021) indicated the effectiveness of kinesiotaping in reducing DRA after childbirth. However, the participants were not sufficiently familiar with this method, which emphasizes the need for education about the possibilities of prevention and treatment of DRA. Gruszczyńska and Truszczyńska-Baszak (2018) highlighted the importance of regular abdominal exercises during the prenatal period in reducing the risk of DRA. The research confirms that pregnant women recognize the importance of physical activities, but also the need for additional education in order to better address the diverse needs and beliefs of women regarding the prevention of DRA.
Conclusion: Based on this research, the majority of pregnant women show a satisfactory understanding of diastasis recti abdominis (DRA), but there is a small number who are not sufficiently familiar with this condition, which highlights the need for additional education. Some pregnant women refrained from answering certain questions, which suggests a first encounter with concepts related to DRA. The research confirmed a relatively high level of awareness, but further, more comprehensive research is needed for a better understanding and more accurate information.
