Temeljni uzroci ove pojave mogu varirati. To može biti posljedica potpunog nedostatka inzulina u tijelu, poznatog kao dijabetes tipa 1. Zatim, to može biti rezultat nedovoljne količine inzulina ili razvoja inzulinske rezistencije, kao što se vidi kod dijabetesa tipa 2. Ova stanja mogu nastati zbog čimbenika kao što su povećana proizvodnja glukoze ili pretjerana aktivnost hormona koji suzbijaju učinke inzulina. Posljedično, razina glukoze u krvotoku raste, ostavljajući tjelesne stanice lišene svog uobičajenog izvora energije. Kao odgovor, tijelo pokušava eliminirati višak glukoze iz krvi korištenjem pohranjenih masti i proteina u mišićima kao alternativnog izvora goriva. Ovaj poremećaj u fiziološkim procesima dovodi do različitih simptoma dijabetesa, uključujući hiperglikemiju i neravnoteže u metabolizmu masti, bjelančevina i ugljikohidrata. Budući da neodgovarajuće dijagnosticirana šećerna bolest može uzrokovati oštećenje tijela u cjelini, ključno je educirati populaciju o prevenciji, simptomima i liječenju ove bolesti, pri čemu medicinske sestre igraju iznimno važnu ulogu.
Cilj ovog istraživanja je ispitati opću informiranost populacije o dijabetesu, odnosno koliko je upoznata s čimbenicima rizika, simptomima i liječenju dijabetesa.
Analiza rezultata ankete ukazuje na zadovoljavajuće rezultate među sudionicima. Prema dobivenim podacima, populacija ima solidno razumijevanje načina prevencije, uzroka i liječenja šećerne bolesti. Međutim, s obzirom na globalnu prijetnju dijabetesom i neprestano rastuću incidenciju, postavlja se potreba za proširenjem obujma edukacije među općom populacijom.
Abstract (english) Diabetes or sugar disease is a condition in which the body cannot regulate the level of glucose in the blood. There are several reasons why this phenomenon occurs. It is possible that there is no insulin in the body at all (type 1 diabetes), then that there is too little insulin or insulin resistance occurs (type 2 diabetes) due to increased glucose production or excessive action of hormones that have the opposite effect of insulin. As a result of pathological processes, there is an increase in glucose in the blood, and body cells are left without the usual source of energy. The body tries to remove excess glucose from the blood, while using fat and protein stored in the muscles as an alternative source of energy. Because of this, physiological processes are disturbed, which leads to some of the symptoms of diabetes, such as hyperglycemia, and disturbances in the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Given that long-term undiagnosed diabetes can lead to dysfunction of the entire organism, it is important to educate people about the prevention, symptoms and treatment of diabetes, and nurses are extremely important in this.
The aim of this research is to examine the general awareness of the population about diabetes, that is, how familiar they are with the risk factors, symptoms and treatment of diabetes.
The analysis of the results of the survey indicates satisfactory results among the participants. According to the obtained data, the population has a solid understanding of the methods of prevention, causes and treatment of diabetes. However, given the global threat of diabetes and its ever-increasing incidence, there is a need to expand the scope of education among the general population.
