... More prati doţivotno.
Time se poboljšava njihova kvaliteta ţivota, a dijete moţe ţivjeti svoje djetinjstvo kao i prije otkrivenog doţivotnog pratioca. Less
Abstract (english) Diabetes, as one of the leading health issues of our age, is increasingly being diagnosed among children. It is a metabolic disease which develops with the dysfunction of beta cells of the pancreas, which is either not producing enough or any insulin. This very complex disease presents issues requiring constant innovation in treatment, the diagnosis itself, and the conduction of education. Nowadays the diagnosed children can have fulfilled and good-quality childhood, regardless of the
... More lifelong disease. The treatment of diabetes is based on the principles of lifelong use of insulin, self-control, physical activity, and correct and balanced diet. The education from nurses is still the first link in the whole support process for parents. The good control of the illness equals to good quality life for the kid.
During the development of this paper, a voluntary and anonymous online survey was conducted. The goal of this paper is to understand the impact that diabetes has on children and their families, and how is the society accepting them. 175 parents participated in the survey. All of the children have type 1 diabetes, while 7,4% of children also have an accompanying autoimmune disease. 57,7% of parents received adequate education regarding the illness, and over 50% of parents were prepared to take care of their child without assistance of medical personnel. Most of the negative answers were related to kindergartens and schools. Most parents, 72% of them, think that schools and kindergartens do not have enough education about diabetes, and as such cannot provide adequate care. Unfortunately there are still kindergartens and schools that do not support the children with diabetes. Thanks to the contemporary technology, over 90% of children use modern devices to control blood sugar levels. This is improving their quality of life, and a child can live their childhood just as they did before the discovery of this lifelong companion. Less
