Colon cancer is a major public health problem whose treatment includes, among other things, colon surgery. The recovery of patients after colon surgery depends on: the stage of the disease, preoperative education and preparation of the patient, the type and technique of surgery and postoperative health care. Recognizing the disease at an early stage provides better treatment options and a multidisciplinary approach to the patient from the very beginning of treatment certainly allows for faster and more successful treatment. The role of all team members is to facilitate patient recovery. The Master of Nursing, as the leader and coordinator of patient care and health care, can positively influence the acceptance of the disease with his knowledge and prepare patients for a new way of life through adequate preparation and education. The development of minimally invasive surgical techniques has accelerated the postoperative recovery of patients. Thanks to less tissue trauma, the intensity of pain is much lower, the mobilization of patients after surgery is much faster and the number of postoperative complications associated with prolonged lying down is reduced. All together, it resulted in a shorter stay of the patient in the health institution after the operation, and the patient must be ready for independent living very soon after the operation. Such a quick recovery is a new challenge in nursing to which the nurse as an organizer and coordinator of health care must and should know how to respond with her knowledge and competencies
