Asthma is one of the most common diseases of the respiratory system. Over the past fifteen years, it has grown considerably among developed and less developed countries. Asthma is thought to be caused by combination of genetic and environmental factors. Allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma in childhood. It is a chronic disease with reversible bronchial obstruction caused by inflammation, edema, and smooth muscle contraction in the airways. Allergens, such as pollen, animal hair, dust, and grass, cause asthma attacks by getting into the respiratory system and causing the hypersensitivity reaction, resulting in numerous cells and leading to characteristic changes. In team that treats and supervises a child with asthma, the nurse has the greatest role to teach the child and parents how to properly use and measure PEF and how to avoid harmful allergens and irritations from the environment. The nurse takes care of the necessary examinations and orders them for checkups. The availability of effective treatment and modern medication does not mean simultaneously successful treatment of asthma, so it is necessary to build a constructive relationship between a patient, a parent and a team of healthcare professionals who treat a child with asthma. Asthma education is part of this relationship.
