The number of elderly people in the total population is increasing every year. A comparison of the Republic of Croatia with other European countries indicates that the Republic of Croatia is one of the countries with the oldest population. The developments of technologies and advances in medicine have contributed to a longer period of life. The aging process is a physiological process that brings with it numerous physical, mental and social changes. Because of these changes, which in some way characterize the elderly, there are a number of negative beliefs about the elderly. Such beliefs give rise to prejudices that ultimately lead to discrimination against the elderly. Today, a little more has been said about this problem, which makes life difficult for the elderly and which shows young people the wrong picture of people over the age of 65. There are numerous studies showing the stealing of attention and care for the elderly and a different, cooler approach and aversion to them. Therefore, it is very important to make lay people and many experts aware of this problem, about the ways that have contributed to discrimination against the elderly and the ways in which this discrimination would be reduced. We need to work together to remove negative opinions about the elderly. They were also once young and their work contributed to the progress of society. Therefore, they need to ensure a safer and better old age.
