Meniscus have an important role in knee joint biomechanics. Meniscus injury is the most common injury encountered by doctor in orthopedic – trauma clinics. This type of injury causes interruption in complex function of meniscus which leads to pain, swelling, knee movement is blocked and knee joint instability occur. Type of meniscus injury and final diagnosis doctor determines through anamnesis, palpation and clinical tests that are characteristic for that type of injury, MRI scans and arthrography. The treatment is either conservative or operative. When it comes to conservative treatment, the RICE method is mostly used. When it comes to operative treatment, meniscus repair is implied, partial or complete meniscectomy and meniscus transplantation. Doctor, as well as patients, aim to preserve the meniscus so transplantation is the last option. Arthroscopy is a surgical method that is increasingly being sought today. After meniscectomy and meniscus repair knee function is better. Whether it is conservative or operative meniscus treatment, adequate physical therapy is crucial. Physical therapy starts right after the surgery. In order for the patient to recover as soon as possible, breathing, strengthening and flexibility exercise are performed, correct gait pattern is learned and electrostimulation and cryotherapy are also performed (ice therapy). After discharge from the hospital, rehabilitation is carried out in the premises for the physical therapy. Therapy, depending on the diagnosis and progress, is carried out on a weekly basis and is individual for each patient. The main role in the implementation of physical therapy is played by the physiotherapist and the patient.
