Heart defects are one of the possible cardiovascular diseases. The foramen ovale is an opening in the heart barrier between two atria and is important for the fetus. In order for the fetal bloodstream to function smoothly, the foramen ovale is needed. After birth, the foramen ovale closes. However, in a certain number of children, the foramen ovale remains open. If there are no symptoms the disease is difficult to diagnose. In adulthood, a patent foramen ovale may be suspected when a stroke occurs if no other signs and symptoms of stroke are found. The best form of treatment for the disease is percutaneous closure of the foramen ovale to shorten the time of hospitalization and reduce the possibility of complications. The type of treatment is decided by a multidisciplinary team after the diagnosis and assessment of the patient's condition. This composition presents the research in the Dubrava Clinical Hospital before and after the consensus. The period before and after the consensus did not bring any differences in the presentation and setting of the indication for percutaneous closure of the PFO. The role of the nurse / technician is to provide adequate patient care, conduct diagnostic procedures, prepare patients and educate them.
