Cardiovascular diseases are disease of heart and blood vessels and, with the epidemiological transition, have become a significant public health problem in terms of morbidity and mortality. Myocardial infarction is the death or necrosis of a part of the heart muscle due to a sudden reduction or complete interruption of blood flow through one of the coronary arteries. The most common cause of infarction is atherosclerosis, or the deposition of lipids in the walls of the coronary arteries. There are many risk factors associated with atherosclerosis and consequent myocardial infarction. Some of these factors cannot be changed, while others can be influenced by medical intervention [1]. Cardiovascular rehabilitation is an organized set of procedures aimed at diagnostic assessment, optimization of pharmacological therapy and comprehensive preparation of persons for permanent independent secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Interventions from the rehabilitation program are carried out by polyvalent teams of health professionals, including nurses, and an interdisciplinary approach actively encourages and supports the patient in order to achieve and maintain optimal physical and psychosocial health [1].
