The fascial system is a continuous sheath of connective tissue that extends throughout the body without interruption. It surrounds all organs, muscles, bones and nerve fibers, giving the body a functional structure and providing an environment for all body systems to work smoothly. It is a constant structure that exists from head to toe without interruption, so every part of the whole body is connected to another part by fascia. The connective tissue of the fascia contains patterns of physical and emotional injury that cause the layers of fascia to tighten and stick together, creating muscle restriction and pain. When the fascia is damaged, scar tissue and adhesions develop. In this way, the smooth movement between the fascial layers is disrupted, causing pain, weakness and sensitivity. In the treatment of myofascial pain, a physiotherapist plays a major role, who, in addition to classic physical therapy procedures, uses manual techniques such as scar manipulation treatment, myofascial relaxation techniques and many others.
