Traffic accidents are one of the most common causes of mortality in all age groups, especially in the population of people up to 29 years of age. After a traffic accident occurs, in most cases emergency medical services, police and firemen are sent to the scene, and they are the first responders at the scene of the accident. Providing assistance to injured persons is time-dependent, and before the rescue services go to the scene, it is necessary to determine the characteristics of the accident, the type of emergency service required, the number of teams and the safest approach. Good judgment has a direct impact on accident outcomes. A mass casualty event is defined as an event in which the number of casualties exceeds the available funds and resources that are otherwise available, and the effectiveness of the mass casualty response depends on pre-disaster preparation which is critical to ensuring the best outcomes. Mass accidents are divided in relation to the cause, complexity, number of victims and available resources, and in relation to the medical response they are divided into accidents from level I to level IV. Mass casualty response and management varies by hierarchy. Coordination of the care of injured persons takes place at the level of local and regional health institutions. The work of outpatient services is coordinated by the directors of the institutions, the police and firefighters are responsible for safety, and the medical reporting unit is responsible for coordinating teams and transporting injured persons. In the case of mass accidents, special protocols of action are implemented that follow all services involved in ensuring the safety of the accident site and taking care of the injured persons.
