The surgical procedure of implanting an endoprosthesis (artificial joint), significantly improves patient's quality of life. Due to its anatomical and biomechanical characteristics the hip joint plays the most important role in maintaining the body in balance and proper gait. Hip joint changes over time and that can significantly disrupt everyday life. Therefore may require interventions on the joint. When the function of the hip joint is significantly impaired, the implantation of an endoprosthesis is needed. Indications for endoprosthesis can be degenerative changes, various traumas or some congenital disorders. A degenerative disease, coxarthrosis, is the most common cause of endoprosthesis implantation. Depending on the operator and the patient, the procedure can be performed in several ways. Today, the most commonly used procedures are direct anterior, lateral and posterior approach. The difference is in the place of entry into the joint and the damage to the muscles by the procedure itself. After the procedure, physical therapy is necessary. The process of physical therapy begins immediately postoperatively, on the first day after the surgery. The patient is educated about the new limitations, and what and how he can do with regard to the procedure. Physiotherapist conducts diaphragmatic breathing exercises, strengthening, flexibility and proprioception exercises with the patient. Rehabilitation also includes re-learning proper gait. Physical methods such as electrotherapy and cryotherapy are also used. Rehabilitation after the procedure is performed in a physical therapy facility, and is monitored weekly. It is believed that in the period from three to four months after the rehabilitation, patient can return to almost all activities of daily life from before.
