Rukovanje s djetetom (engl.
Abstract (english) Cerebral palsy is referred to as the most common physical impairment in children, and refers to a group of non-progressive, permanent motor disorders caused by damage of the brain, during its development. The causes of cerebral palsy are divided into three groups: prenatal, perinatal and postnatal, i.e. the clinical picture of cerebral palsy can occur before and during pregnancy, but also after birth. After the diagnosis of cerebral palsy follows a categorization of its form. There are three basic forms of cerebral palsy, which will be described later, namely spastic, dyskinetic and ataxic. Physiotherapy assessment is an important part of the treatment of patients with cerebral palsy, as it aims to determine and evaluate the patient's level of ability. Classification of assessment includes subjective and objective methods of physiotherapeutic assessment, which are described in the second part of the article. The assessment is followed by physiotherapeutic intervention, which includes various methods of physiotherapeutic procedures for a person suffering from CP. Bobath method is based on inhibition of primitive reflexes and facilitation of normal movements. Baby handling is a method in which physiotherapists educate parents and guardians with the aim of proper treatment of the child. The Vojta method stimulates the brain to activate innate movement patterns and is based on reflex locomotion and spontaneous motor activity, while sensory integration means the organization of sensations in the human organism. The last method of physiotherapeutic intervention for people suffering from cerebral palsy described in this article is hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is the therapy with the help of horses with the aim of improving coordination and activation of muscles, stimulating sensations and normalizing breathing. It is important to note that each person suffering from cerebral palsy is a unique individual and requires an individual approach in all areas of treatment.
