Abstract Humani papiloma virus (HPV) predstavlja najčešću spolno prenosivu infekcija u svijetu i jednu od vodećih uzroka karcinoma vrata maternice.
Abstract (english) Human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world and one of the leading causes of cervical cancer. It belongs to the Papillomaviridae family, a group of DNA viruses, and more than 200 types of it have been identified today. The virus enters the epithelium through damage to the skin/mucosa and infects the basal stem cells. HPV subtypes show a preference for the places on the body that most often infect, and the manifestations of disease resulting from infection can vary. As there is no specific drug for the treatment of HPV, there is the possibility of treating the symptoms and prevention.
Vaccines against HPV, which have been introduced in many countries, including in the Republic of Croatia, have shown promising results in reducing HPV infection and related diseases in the past decade.
In this paper, the conducted research wanted to establish whether students of the University of the North who belong to different socio-demographic groups, especially nursing students and physiotherapy students, differ in the level of knowledge and attitudes towards HPV infections.
The research was carried out using an empirical quantitative method, where the results were obtained by an "online" survey, via a Google Forms form, on a convenient sample of 179 members of the reference population, where the sample included 119 nursing students and 60 physiotherapy students. The data collected during the research were processed in the statistical software package for social sciences, SPSS 21. The data were collected through March and April 2022.
According to the obtained results, it was determined that students of different ages, students of different years of study, students of different fields of study, students who differ from each other regarding the regularity of gynecological/urological examinations and students who differ with regard to vaccination against HPV infection.
Students over 30 years of age, i.e. students of an older age, students in higher years of study, nursing students, students who regularly perform gynecological/urological examinations and students who have not been vaccinated against HPV show a higher level of knowledge about HPV infections. While students under the age of 21, i.e. students of a younger age, students in lower years of study, physiotherapy students, students who do not perform regular gynecological/urological examinations and students who have been vaccinated against HPV show a lower level of knowledge about HPV infections.
